About This Edition

The Sonic Website was originally authored by Durand R. Begault at NASA Ames Research Center in the late 1990s, as a CD-ROM and companion website for audio production in a DAW. Michael Cohen first adopted the content during his time at the University of Aizu, and has maintained the web version since.

This modernized edition preserves the original educational content while updating the presentation for contemporary web standards. The interactive Web Audio API demonstrations, responsive design, and modern accessibility features were added during the 2026 refresh, carried out at Higashi Nippon International University — Michael’s current home institution.

All original audio examples, figures, and text have been faithfully preserved. Technology references have been updated where the original context (e.g., specific software products or hardware) would be confusing to modern readers.

Technology

This site is built with HTML5, CSS3, and vanilla JavaScript. Interactive audio demonstrations use the Web Audio API. No frameworks or build tools are required — the site can be served as static files from any web host.
